Dateline visits Greenland's unconventional open prison, where inmates are allowed out for work and leisure, and are even given guns to go hunting, but is it really the deterrent it should be? For more on Nick Lazaredes' story, go to the SBS Dateline website... http://bit.ly/nUnUPw
Some claim the prisons in Norway are far too soft on criminals compared to the American system but how do the countries compare in the crime rate and recidivism categories? At the height of the Cold War, the US military devised a plan to position a top secret military base within the ice sheet of Greenland. Camp Century was carved from the ice, bearing a remarkable resemblance to the Rebel ice base from the film, "The Empire Strikes Back". Powered by a custom-built nuclear reactor, Camp Century would have provided an ideal strategic location for hidden nuclear missiles. But two years after construction, US planners had a troubling realization. Snow and ice move across the surface much faster than they had ever realized, spelling doom for the isolated, frozen base. | http://www.ahctv.com/what-history-forgot/ #WhatHistoryForgot Tuesdays at 10pm on AHC Subscribe to AHC: http://bit.ly/AHCSubscribe

My trip to Greenland in August 2016 - please don't be too harsh on my first attempt at a video with sound! The glacier scenes are shaky as I was on a boat with cold fingers! New inmates at the prison are given their own door keys and a gun - so they can demonstrate trust to hunt for their families - such a fascinating country...

Top 10 Places You Can't See on Google Maps! It’s meant to give us a global view of our entire world – but it appears that there are some places that we aren’t meant to see. Here are 10 places that remain a mystery… for now. Number 10: Junction Ranch Our first stop is in the middle of the Mohave Desert in California, USA. Zoom in and you might think that you can see all there is to see – this army testing site features military vehicles, some sort of runway, and a series of strange geometrical patterns built into the ground. But when you get in closer, you will see that not everything is on display. Number 9: The Faroe Islands This self-governing group of islands off the coast of Denmark is made up of 18 volcanic islands and a few inexplicable black-green smudges, if you are to believe Go...

No children, no partner, no work. But you still have to call and check in, of course, to confirm proof of life, your partner tells you with a certain sardonic tone. You obviously have to read emails too, just in case your office forecasts the apocalypse and you aren’t there to say ‘I knew it, I saw it coming’. The modern holiday has become a Living TV documentary, where you board a low-cost flight and head somewhere ‘warm’ to try and get business-grade drunk. There are only a few differences between business drunk and normal drunk: business drunk means it’s still acceptable to drive. Of course, even if you aren’t aiming for a tourist hotspot destination, chances are you will have to encounter the proletariat ‘on tour’ at the airport. Cue the whiskey and narcotics to dull the ache. So, ho...
After many days of travel: California to New York...New York to Iceland...Iceland to Greenland...and some long days of shooting in the snow...Ricky and I needed a break. We met up at the Hotel Hans Egade in Nuuk, where our buddy Nels mixed us up the national drink...a Greenlandic Coffee. The recipe is simple: 1 part Kahlua 1 part whiskey 3 parts coffee whipped cream 1 part Grand Marnier Although the ingredients seem obvious cohorts, the story that goes along is what makes the drink. The Kahlua represents the Mother of the Sea. She controls all of the hunting game and food of the land. If the humans do not treat the land with respect, she holds back their food. The whiskey represents a man from a nearby settlement. When food is scarce, he dives into the ocean to ask her for forgiveness. W...
